Honda Tire Replacement
When Do I Really Need New Tires for My Honda?
Choosing to replace your honda tires before they fall beneath state inspection limits is a safety precaution that you should consider.
In the Scott Honda Service Department, our job is to put our guests' safety first. Pennsylvania Safety Vehicle Inspections are performed here daily and oftentimes new tires are recommended while the current tires still have enough tread depth to legally pass the PA safety inspection.
Many of our guests may not be familiar with the safety concerns that can accompany waiting until their tires fail inspection to purchase replacements. We hope to take the mystery out of it so you can make your own informed decision.
Stopping time and distance is greatly affected in wet conditions as tread depth deteriorates over time. A tire with under 2/32" tread depth remaining will officially fail PA State Safety Inspection, but even tires with 4/32" tread depth remaining show reduced ability to stop on minimally wet roadways.
A regular rotation schedule, as well as proper alignment and factory recommended air pressure levels, are all ways to help avoid uneven wear patterns and extend the tread life of your tire investment.
The following video was produced by a third party, Tire Rack. It gives an in-depth explanation of the safety concerns for tire wear during emergency stopping, or what is referred to as "panic stops." Panic stopping is a car maneuver we all use, perhaps quite often in our area, to keep our cars (and ourselves) accident free. We thought sharing this video may be helpful to you the next time you have your tires inspected and learn your tire depth.
