Because They Empower You as a Decision Maker and Encourage Trust in our Service Center.

Our cars are “arguably one of the most-loved things” we own so it only makes sense that choosing the right mechanic is as personal as picking a doctor. There’s many reasons why our cars mean so much to us. Most obviously, cars give us freedom— the freedom to jump behind the wheel and drive wherever, whenever you want, blasting your favorite song with the windows down. Plus, cars have personalities; they often elicit an emotional response in us, and can even become a facet of our identity. Sometimes when we drive our cars long enough, it feels like they’re a part of us. This is why being a car owner is exciting. And we want that excitement to last.

It’s no secret that a well-maintained vehicle gives us reliability, improved performance, longevity, and higher resale value. But as cars are becoming increasingly complex, we car owners can certainly benefit from a trusted advisor when it comes to maintaining such sophisticated machines. That’s why our Honda technicians are continually trained on new technology in order to perform multi-point inspections that evaluate your car’s intricate systems and offer you money-saving recommendations.

Why is the Multi-Point Inspection Important at Every Visit?

Just like we need wellness visits, our cars also need these regular check-ups. And as a doctor would perform a physical exam, a Honda certified technician performs a multi-point inspection (MPI) for your vehicle.

An MPI is a thorough inspection of your vehicle’s critical systems including the interior, exterior, underbody, and engine. We like to call these “vehicle report cards” because they report to you on those systems and parts that are in good shape, those that need attention soon, and those parts that could “fail” and become a larger, more costly issue without immediate replacement.

It’s better to catch a minor problem early on to avoid major repairs. Many of these maintenance issues may be trickier for an owner to notice, like worn-out brakes or irregular tread wear beginning on the inside of your tires.

Beyond ensuring your safety, this “vehicle report card” also grants you extra time to act preventatively, or plan ahead and budget for a major repair.

What Does the Multi-Point Inspection Include?

Our multi-point inspection covers a lot of ground. From the general exterior of a vehicle, down to its battery, a technician will examine each part and rate it using a simple scale on the comprehensive MPI report that is presented to you during each service visit.

A color-coded, checkmark system makes your report easy to understand so that you can confidently make decisions with the help of your Advisor.

  • Green indicates the part is working properly.
  • Red indicates the part that needs immediate attention.
  • Yellow indicates the part will need to be replaced soon.

There are two main components of the exam: the road test and the bay/lift check. To perform the road test, a technician will briefly drive the vehicle to check and score the following:

  • Tire noise or vibration
  • Braking performance
  • Vehicle handling (including suspension noise and Powertrain performance)
  • Dashboard lights & Check Engine Light status
  • Parking brake
  • Clutch operation

And during the bay/lift check, the vehicle will be examined in a technician’s workstation, where they may raise the vehicle on a car lift to inspect the following:

  • Battery
  • Exterior lighting (headlights, brake lights, and hazards)
  • Mirrors
  • Horn
  • Windshield wipers
  • Condition of all fluids (oil, brake, power steering, etc.), and signs of leaking
  • Belts and hoses
  • Suspension
  • Steering
  • Exhaust system

Each tire’s tread depth will be rated, as well as their wear patterns. Additionally, each brake pad and rotor will be inspected and scored using the same scale.

We Want to Be Your Trusted Advisor. The Multi-Point Inspection is One Way We Earn Your Confidence.

Trust is a big deal to us at Scott Honda. We know that it takes consistency and transparency to gain your trust. We offer you multi-point inspections at every visit because we want to become your trusted, knowledgeable Advisor, partnering with you in the preventative care and maintenance of your car.

And we get it— you want to get back on the road and back to your life, free from worry. We want that, too. That’s why we hold so much value in an MPI. This inspection empowers you as the consumer to be the decision-maker, so there’s no stress or pressure.  It gives you a choice to act immediately and fix your car preventatively, or plan ahead and budget for an upcoming cost. We want to save you money in the long-run by catching issues sooner rather than later.

We value your time too. It only makes sense to recommend you choose to take a preventative measure while you’re already visiting our Service Center, than to have you leave your appointment with an impending problem that may arise on the most inconvenient day. Ultimately, the decision is yours. We’re simply here to advise.

We hope with our advice, you can drive away from your service appointment feeling confident, so you can simply turn the music up, roll your window down, and enjoy the road ahead.
