Safety First

Contributing to the top ratings, each of the six models achieved the highest possible rating of “GOOD” in all six IIHS crashworthiness tests. In addition, all models feature Honda Sensing®, earning them “SUPERIOR” ratings for vehicle-to-vehicle frontal crash prevention. Honda Sensing® is now available or standard in all Honda models and offers these comprehensive safety features:

  • Collision Mitigation Braking System™ (CMBS™) with Pedestrian Detection
  • Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)
  • Forward Collision Warning
  • Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS)
  • Road Departure Mitigation (RDM) incorporating Lane Departure Warning (LDW)

All Honda vehicles also benefit from Honda’s proprietary Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure, which is designed to protect occupants in various frontal collisions. Plus, ACE™ offers advanced supplemental restraint systems, such as pre-tensioning front seatbelts and front, side, knee, and side-curtain airbags.

Scoring Guidelines

To earn the 2022 TSP award, a vehicle must earn the highest rating, “GOOD,” in all crash tests. A top-rated vehicle must also offer front crash prevention that earns an “ADVANCED” or “SUPERIOR” rating in both vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian testing, as well as “GOOD” or “ACCEPTABLE” ratings for available headlights. TSP+ rated vehicles must achieve the same “GOOD” or “ACCEPTABLE” rating for their standard headlights.

Separately, every 2022 Honda model that has been fully evaluated in the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s NCAP (New Car Assessment Program) test has received a 5-Star Overall Vehicle Score.

What is the IIHS?

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety is an independent, nonprofit scientific and educational organization dedicated to reducing deaths, injuries and property damage from motor vehicle crashes through research and evaluation and through education of consumers, policymakers and safety professionals.1

In 1992, IIHS opened the Vehicle Research Center. This state-of-the-art facility is where IIHS performs the crash tests that form the basis of its widely consulted vehicle ratings. VRC tests help consumers make informed decisions. Vehicles are rated for safety based on performance in several tests, and the best performers carry the TOP SAFETY PICK+ or TOP SAFETY PICK designation. IIHS tests have encouraged automakers to produce safer vehicles, which is the ultimate goal.1
